Control Panels

Command and protection solutions for pumping installations.

Control Panels · Specification range

An electrical control panel for water pumping is the brain of a hydraulic installation: it powers, protects and commands the pump based on external signals — float, pressure switch, level probe, timer or PLC. JOVAL has manufactured a modular range of control panels in Portugal since 1992, for single-phase 230 V and three-phase 400 V installations, with thermal overload ranges from 1 to 25 A.

Control Panels · Technical Overview

The published range covers the three configurations most often specified in projects: the D123D Digital Panel is a universal modular unit that controls 1, 2 or 3 pumps — with electronic thermal protection via motor current sensing, Danfoss power components and IP 54 protection. The BA2CF Panel commands two wastewater pumps in duty-standby alternation, in an ABS enclosure rated IP 55 with a UV-stable transparent lid. The CFJ Hybrid Controller is a variable frequency drive with integrated MPPT, photovoltaic input up to 800 VDC and three-phase 230 V or 400 V output, aimed at installers who want to solarise existing boreholes.

The modular architecture of these three lines covers, from a small set of parts, most pump automation needs in a project — from a domestic borehole with a D123D and float switch, to a duplex-alternating wastewater lift station with a BA2CF. The panels accept float, pressure switch and level probe inputs; the digital versions also monitor motor current draw as dry-run protection.

All panels are assembled, parameterised and bench-tested at our Fafe factory, under an ISO 9001:2015 quality system. Technical support is provided directly by the factory, with permanent stock held in Portugal and wiring diagrams available for installers and specifiers.

Frequently asked questions

  1. How do I choose the right panel for my pump?

It depends on the supply voltage (230 V single-phase or 400 V three-phase), the motor's rated current and the control signal you need (float, pressure switch or level probe). The D123D covers most single-phase and three-phase configurations up to 25 A.

  2. What is the difference between float, pressure switch and level probe control?

A float starts the pump by position; a pressure switch starts it by system pressure; a level probe measures actual water height and enables precise hysteresis. The D123D digital panel accepts any of these command signals.

  3. How does dry-run protection via motor current sensing work?

The panel continuously monitors the current drawn by the motor. If it detects a sudden drop — the signature of a dry suction — it cuts the supply and retries on a timed sequence, preventing the pump from running empty.

  4. Is there a dedicated panel for wastewater lift stations?

Yes. For duty-standby alternation between two pumps, the BA2CF panel (ABS enclosure, IP 55) is the direct choice. It is the natural complement to the JRD and JRV series from our drainage pumps range.

  5. Can I use a JOVAL panel to solarise an existing borehole?

Yes, with the CFJ Hybrid Controller. It is a VFD with MPPT and PV input up to 800 VDC that drives any conventional three-phase pump directly from the array, integrating with JOVAL's solar pumping range.
