Hydropneumatic Power Units

Complete systems for maintaining constant pressure in the network.

Hydropneumatic Power Units · Specification range

A booster set (also called a pressurisation unit) is a pump assembly that maintains constant pressure in a hydraulic network, using one or more pumps controlled by a pressure switch (direct-on-line start) or by a variable frequency drive. JOVAL assembles the JMV range at Fafe, in simplex (2 or 3 pumps) and duplex (2 pumps) configurations, with direct-on-line start (JMV-D) or with VFD for constant pressure (JMV-V).

Hydropneumatic Power Units · Technical Overview

Every JMV booster set is pre-mounted on an AISI 304 stainless steel base plate with a compression manifold also in AISI 304, MV-series multistage vertical pumps, an electronic control panel with digital protection (dry run, overload and phase failure), pressure switches, a glycerine-filled pressure gauge and individual non-return and isolation valves per pump. The unit is delivered ready to connect to the network and to the pressure tank — the tank is supplied separately.

The JMV-V series, with variable frequency drive, keeps network pressure constant regardless of demand. The entry-level JMV 2-xM-V series (single-phase 230 V) covers powers from 0.37 to 1.5 kW per pump (0.5 to 2 HP), with manometric heads between 28 and 84 m and flows per pump between 0.6 and 4.2 m³/h. In duplex or triplex configuration the booster set delivers enough peak flow for medium residential buildings and small hotels. Higher-power three-phase versions extend the range into industrial installations.

The electronic panel on the JMV booster sets is part of the Electrical Control Panels family JOVAL manufactures in Portugal, and tank sizing follows the stainless-steel Pressure Tanks range (100 L for 2-3 m³/h, 200 L for 5 m³/h, 300 L for 10 m³/h). Assembly, parameterisation and hydraulic bench testing of the booster sets are carried out at the Fafe factory under an ISO 9001:2015 quality system.

Frequently asked questions

  1. What is the difference between the JMV-D and JMV-V series?

The JMV-D starts on pressure switch — the pumps switch on and off according to tank pressure. The JMV-V incorporates a variable frequency drive that continuously adjusts pump speed to keep pressure constant, reducing consumption peaks and mechanical wear.

  2. What is the difference between a simplex and a duplex booster set?

The simplex set groups 2 or 3 pumps in parallel, staged by sequence according to demand. The duplex set adds redundancy: if one pump fails, the other automatically takes over — used where service continuity is critical.

  3. Does the JMV booster set include the pressure tank?

No. The tank is supplied separately, so it can be sized for the peak demand of the installation and the type of supply. JOVAL stocks the full Pressure Tanks range in AISI 304 stainless steel.

  4. How do I size the tank paired with a booster set?

As a rule of thumb: 100 L for flows of 2 to 3 m³/h, 200 L for 5 m³/h and 300 L for 10 m³/h. The exact volume depends on the network pressure differential and the maximum acceptable number of starts per hour (typically 15 to 20).

  5. What protections are included in the JMV control panel?

Dry-run, overload and phase-failure protection, motor current monitoring and optical status signalling. The panel is part of the Electrical Control Panels family that JOVAL manufactures in Portugal.
